Frequently Asked Questions
If Valencia Foundation has the largest endowment of all community colleges in the US, why do we still need to raise money?
In order to sustain the strength of the endowment, only a small portion of the investment returns can be paid out in scholarships, endowed chairs, and program support. So, while we have a sizeable endowment (in invested dollars, land, and buildings), we are currently able to meet less than half of the unmet documented financial need of our students each year.
How much of my donation is spent on Foundation administration, gifts, or parties?
None! Because the Foundation generates operating funds from land and building leases, 100% of your donation goes directly to student support via scholarships, endowed teaching chairs, and program support.
Can I designate where I want my money to go?
Absolutely! You can decide to support a particular scholarship or endowed teaching chair. Or, you can make your donation in unrestricted funds which will be used in the area of greatest need. For a list of scholarships and teaching chairs, please click here.
How much should I give?
All gifts from faculty and staff are important. You should give the amount that best meets your financial and personal situation and know that your support of students is deeply appreciated.
Can I give through payroll deduction?
Yes! Simply click on this link to the payroll deduction form. Fill out the form, indicate the amount to be deducted from each check, and send it to Payroll Services.
If I choose not to give through payroll deduction, will my contribution still be counted toward the campaign goals?
All donations made by faculty and staff during the campaign will be counted. This includes any gifts made via payroll deduction, direct contributions via check, credit card, or cash, planned gifts, gifts of stock or other property, and gift pledges that may be paid out over several years.
If you would like to talk with someone about planned giving, gifts of stock or property, or gift pledges, please contact Geraldine Gallagher at ggallagher@valenciacc.edu.
